2nd Grade Skyline Cityscapes

Second graders began by discussing what they knew about communities, and what makes up communities. Then they looked at artworks noticing all of them were pictures of citscapes. This inspired them to design their own community as a city. They named their cities and then transferred them to a printing plate. Then they looked at artworks that showed skylines and reflections in the water, noticing that they were symmetrically balanced.

Then students created a background using watercolors to convey a time of day. Students used an incised printmaking process to add their cityscape. They added one print on the skyline and one flipped for a reflection.

Then students collaborated to add their mini communities to create a class community
