We first read a story about penguins to learn a little bit about these animals. Students then identified shapes that could be combined to create a peguin. They ripped paper to create a snowy habitat for the peguins. Then they used tempera paint for the body and added snow with q-tips. Students discovered they could cut other shapes from squares and used other shapes to add features with paper.

Pre-K Penguins and Owls
In connection with Pre-K and head start students learning about animals, students created penguins with Ms. D and owls with Mrs. Haugh.
With Mrs. Haugh, they read the story owl babies and discussed the features, habitats and lives of owls. We used lines to paint a tree branch and dipped cotton balls in white paint to create the shapes of the owl babies' bodies. Later we added shapes for the beaks, silly eyes, and feathers to their wings!
