3rd Grade Ancient Egyptian Clay Cartouches

Third graders analyzed different ancient Egyptian symbols called hieroglyphics as well as modern day symbols we see every day. They learned about Cartouches which were used as name plates for Egyptian royalty. Students then designed their cartouche either based on their own personally created symbols or hieroglyphics. They used both additive and subtractive clay techniques to build their cartouche. Finally, they used water colors to add color and contrast.
